A tragic incident unfolded in Wayne County, Michigan, as a 35-year-old man lost his life in a fatal shooting on Saturday morning. The shocking turn of events prompted the assailant to take refuge inside his own home, barricading himself from the authorities.
According to a news release from Canton police, authorities received a report of shots fired on Saturday, August 10th, around 11:50 a.m. The incident occurred in the 200 block of Cornell Street in Canton Township.
According to initial findings, two men who lived in the same neighborhood engaged in a confrontation prior to the sound of gunshots.
Upon their arrival, law enforcement officers discovered an individual, aged 35, lying on the street with a gunshot wound, according to the police report. Tragically, the man succumbed to his injuries after being transported to the hospital.
Canton Police Chief Chad Baugh expressed his strong condemnation of the violent incident, stating, “This was a senseless act of violence toward the victim.” He further extended the condolences of the Canton Police Department to the victim’s family and the neighbors who might have witnessed the tragic event.
The authorities have not yet disclosed the identity of the victim.
After the shooting, the suspect immediately barricaded himself inside his home but eventually surrendered to the police.
According to the police, the suspect is currently in custody as the investigation is ongoing. The Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office will review the case.
