IMPD is issuing a reminder to the community, urging them to remain watchful and contribute their efforts when traversing Indianapolis trails on foot or by bicycle.
On any given day, you will witness numerous individuals embracing the outdoors and relishing the pleasant weather as they traverse the Fall Creek Trail.
The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) is currently investigating the incidents and considers them to be of significant concern. In response, they have decided to enhance their presence on the trail by increasing bike patrols for the foreseeable future.
Officer Drew Brown of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department emphasizes the significance of remaining vigilant.
“It can be tempting to get lost in the moment, especially when you’re running on the trail with your favorite music playing. However, it’s important to stay aware of your surroundings,” advised Brown. “Remember to keep your head up, look around, and stay vigilant. Additionally, it’s always a good idea to let someone you trust know your whereabouts in advance. If possible, consider running in a group for added safety.”
Ralph Johnson and his faithful companion, Ziggy, enjoy strolling along the trail together a couple of times each week. Johnson expresses his delight upon learning about IMPD’s upcoming initiative to enhance patrols along the trail, particularly for the safety of his wife, who also frequents the area.
Johnson expressed that being aware of the situation puts one on guard and encourages caution. While this consciousness may not necessarily deter individuals from participating, it is hoped that it will help avoid any potential trouble along the trail.
Mark Irvin, a frequent walker of the trail, expresses surprise upon hearing about the recent attacks. Despite this, he still chooses to walk on the trail, particularly when there are more people around for added safety.
Irvin expressed his feelings of slight unease but reassured himself that it was broad daylight and he was not a small individual. He believed that he was relatively safe on the trail.
Johnson stated that he intends to have some personal protection as a precautionary measure.
“I have a club that I always keep at home,” he mentioned. “I might have to bring it along with me here.”
If you notice anything or anyone that raises concerns while on the trail, IMPD urges you to approach them without hesitation.
