Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer is set to attend the unveiling of a new U.S. ship on Monday morning. The vessel will be christened the USNS Lansing.
According to the Navy, the USS Lansing is a high-speed, shallow-draft vessel that serves as an expeditionary fast transport ship, capable of lifting personnel and cargo within the theater of operations for the armed services.
At present, the construction of USNS Lansing is underway, and it has taken its initial steps towards the lengthy commissioning process.
