According to authorities, the individual who was previously reported as deceased has now been successfully revived. The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon, where a car and an SUV collided at an intersection located east of downtown Indianapolis, resulting in injuries to at least seven individuals. Police and rescue personnel were present at the scene to provide assistance.
According to a statement released by Officer Amanda Hibschman of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, the person who was thought to have passed away was taken to the hospital and, thanks to the heroic efforts of the first responders and medical staff, has been revived and is currently in critical condition.
According to an IMPD report, Tramayne Duron Harris, a 27-year-old resident of Indianapolis, is facing preliminary charges of three counts of DWI, two counts of reckless driving, and one count of criminal recklessness-aggressive driving.
At approximately 3:35 p.m. on Tuesday, medics and IMPD officers were dispatched to the intersection of East New York Street and North State Avenue. This location is situated in a neighborhood with both residential and commercial establishments, approximately three-quarters of a mile east of I-70/I-65.
The collision occurred between a northbound gray Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat car and an eastbound silver Ford Explorer SUV at the intersection of State Avenue and New York Street.
Eight people were injured in the incident, including six children who were riding in the SUV.
Harden acted instinctively when the car crash happened. “The first thing that came to my mind was to assist everyone in getting out of the car. Those who accompanied me to the car helped in taking the children out and ensuring their safety,” recalled Harden.
According to the Indianapolis Fire Department, three children were rushed to hospitals after an incident. The youngest of the three was just two years old, while the eldest was 14. The two youngest children were taken to Riley Hospital for Children, while the 14-year-old was transported to IU Health Methodist Hospital. At the time of transportation, the condition of the two younger children was critical, while the 14-year-old’s condition remains unknown. Additionally, a 12-year-old child was stable when taken to Riley, and a 4-year-old child was stable when transported to Methodist Hospital.
When the fire department arrived at the scene, they reported that the woman driving the SUV and the man driving the car were both stable. They were immediately transported to Eskenazi Hospital and Methodist Hospital, respectively, for further treatment and evaluation.
According to an IMPD report, the victim was a 34-year-old woman hailing from Indianapolis. The SUV in question had six children on board, aged 2, 4, 8, 10, 12, and 14.
The crash resulted in the closure of the intersection for approximately four hours.
Images captured by News 8 at the site of the crash revealed that the SUV had collided with a stoplight pole, causing significant damage.
