– A man suspected of killing a Melvindale police officer was found wearing the officer’s handcuffs after a manhunt that began on Sunday morning came to a conclusion.
Officer Mohamed Said, 26, was shot and killed on Monday night in Southwest Detroit, where Michael Lopez, 44, was taken into custody.
Lopez was seen at a house close to Michigan and Livernois in Southwest Detroit on Monday at 6:30 p.m., and police were able to locate him thanks to a tip.
The police took Lopez into custody, put Said in handcuffs, and then took the suspect away. Lopez winked and grinned at the people filming his arrest as the police escorted him to a car.
Robert Kennaley, the chief of Melvindale Police, sobbed upon learning that Lopez had been located by the authorities.
“We succeeded in capturing him,” he exclaimed, shedding tears.
