A significant drug bust has recently taken place on a major highway in La Porte County, Indiana.
Joseph Meahl, a 20-year-old, was a passenger in a vehicle that was pulled over by the Indiana State Police for a traffic violation last week on Interstate 94 near U.S. 421 at Michigan City.
According to reports, he was reportedly in possession of a grocery bag filled with a significant quantity of cocaine.
The police reported that they found a significantly smaller quantity of marijuana from a dispensary in his possession.
According to court documents, Meahl admitted to the police that the drugs were his and that he had instructed the driver to take him to Illinois.
The man from Buchanan, Michigan, may receive a sentence ranging from three to 16 years for the Level 3 felony charge of possessing cocaine. Additionally, he could be subject to an extra six months in jail for the Class B misdemeanor charge of possessing marijuana.
