According to court documents, a 32-year-old parent known as Betany has pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including neglect of a dependent. Prosecutors state that if the plea deal is accepted by the judge, the mother will receive a 12-year sentence with seven years suspended. Initially charged with attempted murder, the prosecution later agreed to a lesser charge of neglect of a dependent due to the mother’s mental illness.
According to investigators, the mother confessed during an interview that she struck her son and attempted suicide out of fear that they would both be taken into sexual slavery. The 32-year-old woman is scheduled to be sentenced next month, as stated in court records. Following her imprisonment, she will be placed on three years of active adult probation and will be required to undergo a psychological evaluation.
