A woman in La Porte County, IN caused a crash in Michigan City on Sunday afternoon, injuring two individuals. However, she didn’t stick around for long as she fled the scene. Fortunately, the police swiftly apprehended her for operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
Janet Brunson, a 64-year-old resident of Michigan City, reportedly collided with the back of a car that had come to a stop at the intersection of U.S. 20 and Woodland Ave.
Shortly after, the police were alerted to a distressing incident involving an SUV that had sustained significant damage. The vehicle was observed driving recklessly in the wrong direction on Johnson Road, near the Center Township Fire Department.
A La Porte County Police officer noticed that the vehicle was halted in the middle of 400 West, as reported by the sheriff’s deputy who responded to the scene.
After the officer pulled behind the vehicle, the driver tried to evade the police by speeding up, slowing down, and eventually coming to a stop on 150 North.
According to the police, Brunson was found to be speaking in a heavily slurred manner and claimed to have only had one beer before she got out of her vehicle and fell to the ground.
The authorities took her into custody when she declined to submit to a blood alcohol test.
The Michigan City Police reported that the individuals driving the vehicle that was struck were transported to a hospital after complaining of pain in their backs and necks.
