The Michigan City Police Department has been awarded $180,000 in federal funding to enhance their technology and equipment.
Congressman Frank Mrvan, along with Michigan City Mayor Angie Nelson Deuitch and Police Chief Marty Corley, came together on Friday to make an important announcement.
Chief Corley stated that the funds will be used to purchase license plate readers, a valuable tool that has proven effective in solving numerous crimes in recent times. Law enforcement officials emphasize that motor vehicles are involved in a staggering 70% of all crimes nationwide, whether it be during the commission of the crime or the getaway.
Congressman Mrvan expressed his congratulations to Mayor Nelson Deuitch and the leaders of the Michigan City Police Department for their successful collaborative effort in providing law enforcement officers with the necessary technology and equipment to ensure the safety of our communities.
The funds were allocated as a part of a comprehensive appropriations bill that supported various initiatives in the 1st District. These included the Indiana Avenue sewer separation project in La Porte, maintenance efforts at Michigan City Harbor, and an enhancement project for the Fedder’s Alley playground in Michigan City.
