A man and a woman have been arrested in LaPorte County, Indiana, in connection with the theft of bronze markers from veteran headstones. This serves as an update to our previous story.
In late September, the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office received reports of multiple thefts of bronze veteran headstone markers. Upon investigation, it was discovered that at least 15 markers had been stolen and several others were damaged in various cemeteries throughout LaPorte County.
53-year-old Terry Wood has been arrested following a tip, and later that day, 25-year-old Breanna Puentez was also taken into custody. Both individuals are now facing charges of one count of felony theft, as well as 15 felony counts of cemetery mischief. The arrest came after evidence was recovered from Wood’s property in LaPorte.
Captain Derek J. Allen expressed strong condemnation for this reprehensible criminal behavior, emphasizing that such actions are utterly unacceptable and will not be tolerated in La Porte County. He commended Detectives Koch and Banic for their dedicated and meticulous investigation, expressing hope that justice will be served for both accused individuals. The Sheriff’s Office remains committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of the community.
“We hope that these arrests bring peace and comfort to the deceased and living US Veterans, and in recognition of their service, we salute them.”
