An Indianapolis woman is facing charges in Marion County court for allegedly selling drugs that resulted in the death of an Indianapolis man.
Baleigh Hicks, a 26-year-old individual, has been charged with a Level 1 felony of dealing in a controlled substance resulting in death, as stated in court documents filed in Marion County.
Officials from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department and the Marion County Coroner’s Office responded to a residence on the southwest side of Indianapolis on June 1st. They were dispatched to conduct a death investigation.
Blake Clayton, a man known to his roommates, was discovered deceased in a bedroom early that morning. According to court documents, various substances and paraphernalia, such as drugs stored in Ziploc bags, a scale, and a rolled-up $100 bill, were found near the bed as evidence.
During the investigation, officials discovered several conversations on Clayton’s cell phone that were eventually linked to Hicks.
In their conversations held in May, it was reported that Clayton frequently bought drugs from Hicks. Clayton would specifically request “some slow,” which is a street term for heroin and/or fentanyl. Throughout their interactions, Clayton reiterated his preference for these substances.
In mid-May, Hicks and Clayton arranged a transaction, as revealed by social media messages found in the court documents.
Law enforcement apprehended Hicks on July 22 at a residence located on the near south side of Indianapolis. In an interview with the police, Hicks confessed to supplying fentanyl to Clayton.
The Marion County court officials have set a $50,000 surety bond for Hicks, with an initial hearing scheduled for Thursday morning.
