On Indianapolis’ northeast side in November 2023, police shot a man after they claimed he had fired shots from his home. Recently, he has agreed to a plea deal in the case.
Dontriell Hood has agreed to enter a guilty plea to criminal recklessness and unlawful handgun possession, according to the agreement that 13News obtained. As part of the deal, the state has agreed to dismiss the charges of unlawful carrying of a handgun and resisting law enforcement.
Please note that the video above is from a previous report when Dontriell Hood made a court appearance.
If the judge accepts the agreement, Hood will have a total sentence of five years. He will spend one year in a community corrections program after serving one year in the Indiana Department of Correction. The remaining three years will be suspended.
According to the police, Hood initially followed their instructions to drop his firearm and approach them slowly. However, they reported that he suddenly moved back towards his weapon, stumbled and fell, and subsequently crawled towards it. As he started to stand up, the police shot him.
Hood, who was already a convicted felon on house arrest, had a run-in with the police once again in April 2022. Using a less lethal launcher, the police shot Hood during this incident. It was a similar situation to a previous incident where Hood was reportedly seen standing in Fall Creek, near Keystone Avenue, and firing shots at people who were fishing.
