An inmate at the La Porte County Jail in Indiana has been charged after seriously injuring another inmate by punching and hitting them with a lunch tray.
In La Porte Circuit Court, Jordan Wasy, 24, is facing charges of Level 5 felony battery.
Kenneth Keller was transported to Northwest Health in La Porte after a corrections officer observed him vomiting blood, as stated in court documents.
Keller, who is 55 years old, was taken to Community Health Hospital in Munster for treatment after sustaining injuries. According to court records, he had a fractured orbital, which refers to the bones surrounding the eye socket. Additionally, he had a minor brain bleed and a laceration to his eye.
During the investigation, it was discovered that on Monday, Keller walked over to a table where Wasy was enjoying his dinner. They had a conversation, and at some point, Wasy got up and hit Keller in the face with his plastic lunch tray.
According to the police, Keller was punched twice in the head area by the assailant.
During the altercation, Wasy sustained a cut to his right eyebrow as the situation escalated into a physical confrontation.
Several days later, Wasy, who was listed as homeless at the time, was granted a pre-trial release on his own recognizance.
Court records revealed that Keller of Knox was incarcerated in jail due to accusations of violating the conditions of his probation for a child molesting conviction in 2022.
Wasy could potentially be sentenced to anywhere between one and six years.
