Two kayakers discovered the body of a Kokomo man on Wednesday in the vicinity of the Kokomo Reservoir Park.

Two kayakers informed an officer from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources of a comatose or unresponsive individual in the water near the Kokomo Reservoir Park, according to a news release from the Kokomo Police Department.

According to the release, a male, 37-year-old Austin Lee Tooley, was located by the Howard County Sheriff’s Department’s dive team after it was activated.

A violent felon was apprehended following a police pursuit through Indianapolis and New Palestine; a shotgun was discovered in the rear of the vehicle.

The criminal investigation section of the Kokomo Police Department was activated to provide support for the investigation. The Howard County Coroner’s Office conducted an autopsy on Thursday afternoon, according to officials. The definitive toxicology and laboratory results are pending, as are the cause and manner of death.

The case is still under investigation, according to the release. The department requests that anyone with further information contact them at (765) 456-7369 or (765) 456-7017.
