A man has been charged by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department after he was discovered living in another person’s garage on the near southeast side of Indy.

Andrew Rodriguez, a 42-year-old man, was taken into custody on charges of Burglary, which is considered a Level 5 Felony.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) received a call regarding a potential disturbance at the 1100 block of E Morris St. As the officer arrived at the scene, they observed a man vigorously waving for their attention. The man gestured for the officer to follow him to the rear of the residence, where he had detained a suspect inside his garage and was currently restraining him in the backyard. The officer swiftly took control of the situation and promptly handcuffed the suspect, Rodriguez, who was wearing a ski mask at the time.

During the initial investigation, officers discovered that the homeowner hadn’t visited the garage for a few days. However, when he decided to inspect his hot tub, he heard a commotion emanating from the garage. As he approached the garage, Rodriguez emerged, brandishing a paintball gun and donning a ski mask that initially appeared genuine. In response, the homeowner swiftly apprehended Rodriguez and restrained him.

In addition, the police officers discovered that Rodriguez was in possession of the homeowner’s credit card, he was apprehended while wearing the homeowner’s shoes, and he had even placed multiple bottles of urine in the garage.
