An 18-year-old suspect has been apprehended by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department in connection with a deadly shooting that occurred on Tuesday in the northwest part of the city. IMPD officials made the announcement on their social media platform.
The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department’s homicide detectives, in conjunction with the department’s violent crimes unit, apprehended Jakari Bibbs, an 18-year-old suspect, in connection with the tragic shooting death of 16-year-old Nathaniel Labissiere.
IMPD arrived at Braemar Drive’s 4400 block at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, responding to earlier reports. On arrival, they discovered Labissiere with a gunshot wound and pronounced him dead at the scene. The Marion County Coroner’s Office investigated and confirmed the cause of death as homicide.
IMPD officials stated that homicide detectives gathered evidence at the scene and interviewed multiple cooperative witnesses. Based on the statements and evidence collected, detectives identified Bibbs as a potential suspect.
Detectives were able to locate Bibbs on Tuesday and proceeded to obtain a search warrant. According to the post, a firearm and other pieces of evidence were discovered during the search. Bibbs was interviewed regarding the incident, but was subsequently released as further investigation is still ongoing.
After conducting their investigation, the detectives gathered sufficient evidence to apprehend Bibbs for his involvement in the shooting. The violent crimes unit of the department tracked Bibbs down in the 5000 block of West 71st Street and took him into custody on preliminary charges of reckless homicide, classified as a Level 5 felony, and pointing a firearm, classified as a Level 6 felony.
The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will make the final charging decision, according to the post.
