Measles has made a comeback in Michigan after a long absence. The last cases were reported in 2019, and now the disease has re-emerged.
According to 102.5 The Block, being unvaccinated against measles can be extremely challenging as it is one of the most contagious diseases. Although it can affect anyone, it is particularly dangerous for young children and babies.

According to 102.5 The Block in Kalamazoo/Battle Creek, new cases have been discovered on the east side of the state in Warren and Troy. However, this could just be the beginning as the virus is highly contagious.
In February of this year, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) reported a case of measles in an Oakland County child who had recently traveled internationally. However, no further cases were reported after that.
Nowadays, the situation has changed, and since the spread of the virus is highly contagious, we must remain cautious and attentive.
According to MDHHS, what are the indications and manifestations of measles?
-
- High fever (may spike to over 104˚F).
- Cough.
- Runny nose.
- Red, watery eyes (conjunctivitis).
- Tiny white spots on the inner cheeks, gums and roof of the mouth (Koplik Spots) two to three days after symptoms begin.
- A rash that is red, raised, blotchy; usually starts on face, spreads to trunk, arms and legs three to five days after symptoms begin.
