Governor Gretchen Whitmer is all set to make an exciting announcement on Monday. The state of Michigan will soon have a new expeditionary fast transport ship named “USS Lansing” in honor of the state’s capital city. This is the first time that the city of Lansing will be receiving such an extraordinary honor, and it is sure to be a proud moment for all the citizens.
The construction of the ship is underway and it is currently going through the initial stages of the commissioning process.
After the event, Governor Whitmer is set to head to Warren where she will unveil the introduction of job programs and pipelines aimed at generating fresh employment prospects for the people of Michigan. This program, known as the Michigan Maritime Manufacturing (M3) Initiative, will collaborate with the Navy and various federal, state, and local partners to address the existing gaps in maritime manufacturing and engineering.
