According to court documents, a prison guard in Northwest Indiana has been charged with bribery and misconduct following a monitored phone call between an inmate and his brother.

Authorities received a tip last week, launching an investigation into 30-year-old Lauren Bush from Lynwood.

According to authorities, there are allegations that an inmate, currently serving a murder sentence, has conspired with Bush in a financial arrangement with the intent to potentially smuggle marijuana into the Westville Correctional Facility.

During their surveillance of phone calls from the inmate, prison officials stumbled upon a conversation where the man’s brother unintentionally mentioned the name “Lauren Bush.”

According to court documents, below is a transcription of a portion of the call.

    • Inmate: Alright. Alright. Look, I need you to send $200 to umm, now don’t say the CashApp name. Umm send it to LB.
    • Brother: Send $200 to who?
    • Inmate: LB. Don’t say the name on the CashApp. Don’t say the name.
    • Brother: Lauren Bush.
    • Inmate: Shut up man.

Bush willingly went to the prison’s Department of Investigations for questioning as instructed.

According to reports, when asked about her usage of CashApp, Bush revealed that she solely utilizes the platform for her business operations on Facebook.

According to court documents, Bush denied receiving money from an inmate and agreed to a search of her phone without a warrant.

According to detectives, the CashApp notifications are consistent with the information gathered from monitoring the inmate’s calls, suggesting that she indeed accepted the money.

Bush faced charges of bribery and official misconduct.

She pleaded not guilty on Tuesday and was able to secure her release from jail by posting a $1,500 bond.

The next hearing is set for August 30th.
