Today, Indiana County Court has several criminal call hearings in the schedule. One of the hearings is for a man who has been charged with vandalizing a cell at the county jail back in May.
State police have charged Khalil Santella, who has been in Westmoreland County Jail since June 17, for causing damages worth $203. Santella was accused of damaging a sprinkler system and his mattress while awaiting a preliminary hearing on DUI and drug charges at the Indiana County Jail. The incident occurred on May 17th, leading to the additional charges against Santella.
The purpose of the the Call is to keep all parties involved in the case informed about its progress. While it is common for proceedings to be rescheduled for a later date, there have been instances where defendants enter a guilty plea during this phase.
