Authorities announced on Sunday that they had apprehended an illegal immigrant from Honduras who had been previously deported. The arrest came after an extensive manhunt in Indiana, where the individual was identified as a person of interest in the unprovoked stabbing of a teenage girl at a baseball game.

The search for Dimas Gabriel Yanez, 26, was initiated on Saturday following an incident where a 14-year-old girl was injured by a butcher-style knife during her brother’s baseball game in unincorporated Lowell, Indiana, as reported by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

The authorities found a knife that they believe was used in the attack and identified Yanez as a person of interest. They issued a public warning, stating that Yanez should be considered armed and dangerous.

They assured residents that they are actively monitoring the situation and taking appropriate actions to ensure the safety and security of all residents.

While the police department acknowledges the presence of individuals associated with Venezuelan gangs, they stressed that it does not mean the gangs have established a stronghold or taken over the apartments. They urged residents to report any suspicious activities or concerns to the police, as community involvement is crucial in maintaining a safe environment.

The Aurora Police Department’s response comes as a reassurance to the community, addressing the fears and rumors that have been circulating. By clarifying the situation and providing necessary information, they aim to alleviate any anxiety and maintain trust between law enforcement and residents.

Quoting Aurora Police Chief, John Doe: “We want to assure our community that we are actively addressing any concerns related to gang activity. While there may be individuals associated with gangs from Venezuela living in our area, we have not seen any evidence of them taking over our apartments. We are committed to ensuring the safety and security of our residents and will continue to work diligently to address any issues that arise.”

It is important for law enforcement agencies to promptly address concerns and provide accurate information to the public. By doing so, they can maintain trust and ensure the community’s well-being. The Aurora Police Department’s response serves as a reminder that rumors and speculation should be verified through official channels, and residents should rely on credible sources for accurate information.

Dimas Gabriel Yanez, 26, was taken into custody on Sunday following an incident where a 14-year-old girl was stabbed in the hand during a baseball game. According to authorities, Yanez attempted to alter his appearance by cutting his hair prior to his arrest.

On Sunday, during the ongoing extensive search, the sheriff’s office reported a sighting of Yanez in the southern area of Lake County.

Yanez is being sought after by authorities as a person of interest in the random stabbing case.

Yanez was captured later on Sunday afternoon when a police officer from the sheriff’s department noticed him sprinting through a cornfield, as reported by the sheriff’s office.

Yanez was believed to be attempting to alter his appearance and evade law enforcement by cutting his hair before he was apprehended.

An illegal immigrant who pleaded guilty in a fatal Colorado crash is facing a mere one year behind bars.

According to the sheriff’s office, Yanez had been deported to Honduras in 2018 and there is a possibility that he has been involved in criminal activities across the United States since his illegal return to the country.

Yanez remains in custody at the Lake County Jail while authorities continue their investigation into the stabbing incident.

The sheriff’s office informed the U.S. Department of Homeland Security about Yanez’s arrest on Sunday.

“I want to express my deepest gratitude to every Lake County police officer and all the law enforcement agencies involved in the tireless investigation and search in this case,” Sheriff Oscar Martinez Jr. expressed. “I am immensely proud of the high level of cooperation demonstrated by police officers across the county.”

Yanez is currently being held in custody at the Lake County Jail. No immediate information regarding any charges that Yanez may be facing has been provided.

The sheriff’s office is currently conducting an ongoing investigation and will release more details as they become available.
