The coroner has identified a former IMPD reserve officer who allegedly murdered his wife and injured his two daughters before killing himself on Monday.

Two adults were killed and two teenagers were injured in a shooting on the south side of Indianapolis on Monday evening, according to an investigation by the IMPD.

Around 9 p.m. on August 12th, an incident was reported in the 600 block of Watersonway Circle. This location is situated in the northeast area of Bluff Road and Edgewood Avenue.

IMPD reported that they received a call about a domestic disturbance with a weapon at the residence. Upon their arrival, officers heard gunfire coming from inside the house. Without hesitation, they entered the premises and discovered two teenagers who had sustained gunshot wounds.

According to an IMPD spokesperson, one of the teenagers was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition, while the condition of the other teenager was reported to be stable.

In the backyard, the officers discovered two individuals, a man and a woman, who had been tragically killed by gunshot wounds.

The Marion County Coroner’s Office has identified the man as Thomas Joseph Nolan, aged 43. Tragically, his death has been determined as an apparent suicide.

The Marion County Coroner’s Office has identified the woman as Ashley L. Nolan, aged 41, and has determined that her death was a homicide.

The couple’s daughters are the ones who got injured.

Ashley, according to her family, was an adoring mother and daughter who had a deep love for the Lord. As a faithful Christian, she made it her utmost priority to ensure that her daughters attended church every Sunday. Known for her kind words and ever-present smile, Ashley was a shining example of positivity and love.

Nolan served as a reserve deputy with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office from 2003 to 2004. Following that, he transitioned to a reserve IMPD officer, dedicating 21 years to law enforcement before eventually resigning on May 15, 2024.

According to Perry Township Schools, there is an officer who shares the same name as the reserve officer who used to work for the district. Additionally, they have confirmed that the two teenagers involved in the incident are students of Perry Township.

According to a statement from an IMPD spokesperson, detectives believe that this is a murder-suicide related to a domestic situation.

The Indiana Department of Child Services, IMPD Critical Incident Event Response Team, and IMPD Victims Assistance were part of the teams that arrived at the scene.

If you have any information about the incident, please get in touch with Det. Brian Lambert at the IMPD Homicide Office. You can reach him at 317-327-3475 or email him at [email protected].

If you have any tips, you can also submit them anonymously to Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana by calling 317-262-8477.

Domestic violence resources are crucial for individuals who are experiencing abuse within their relationships. These resources provide support, information, and assistance to those who are in need. It is important to be aware of the available resources and know where to turn for help.

One of the key resources for domestic violence is the National Domestic Violence Hotline. This hotline offers confidential support and assistance 24/7. Trained advocates are available to listen, provide guidance, and connect callers with local resources such as shelters, counseling services, and legal aid.

Local organizations and shelters also play a vital role in providing resources for those affected by domestic violence. These organizations offer safe spaces, counseling, support groups, and legal advocacy. They can provide individuals with the necessary tools and resources to escape abusive situations and start rebuilding their lives.

Additionally, there are online resources available for individuals who may not have access to local services or prefer to seek help online. Websites such as Loveisrespect.org offer information, support, and resources for teens and young adults experiencing dating violence. The website provides chat services, a hotline, and educational materials to help individuals understand and address abusive relationships.

It is important to remember that domestic violence is a complex issue, and resources are available to help individuals navigate their unique situations. Seeking help and support is a crucial step towards breaking the cycle of abuse and finding safety and healing.
