According to the police, the man claimed that he was driving to pick up his children when someone suddenly “appeared” in front of his car.
A warrant has been issued for the driver accused of fatally striking a pedestrian in a hit-and-run accident on the south side of Indianapolis on August 9th.
Zo Thuama, a resident of Indianapolis, is facing charges for leaving the scene of an accident that resulted in a fatality.
Lubunga tragically lost his life at the scene.
Thuama was identified as the location where the license plate of the SUV was traced by the police.
Thuama admitted to being the driver when Lubunga was hit, as stated in court documents.
According to the police, he claimed that he was on his way to pick up his children when an individual suddenly appeared in front of his Honda. He confessed that he didn’t stop due to panic and neglected to report the incident to the authorities when he returned home without picking up his kids.
During the interview, the detective mentioned that Thuama led him to the garage where he showcased the Honda CRV that had incurred significant damage. Notably, the front of the vehicle, including the grill and hood, had been heavily impacted. Law enforcement officials confirmed that the broken pieces found at the scene were consistent with those from Thuama’s car.
Stop 11, near Madison Avenue, has claimed the lives of four individuals since 2022, with Lubunga being the most recent victim.
The Indianapolis Metro Planning Organization has documented an additional five pedestrians who have sustained serious injuries as a result of local drivers striking them.
The IMPO has proposed a “road diet” for Madison Avenue, aiming to reduce the number of lanes from five to four. As part of this plan, a multi-use trail and sidewalks will be incorporated to enhance pedestrian safety.
