Gasoline prices have dropped by 1.9 cents per gallon on a national level over the past week, settling at an average of $3.47/g today.
“Gasoline prices in most parts of the country have stabilized due to lower demand, a lull in tropical activity, and increased supply,” explained Patrick De Haan, GasBuddy’s Head of Petroleum Analysis. However, a major refinery located outside Chicago was severely impacted by a weather-related power outage last week, leading to a significant hike in gasoline prices in Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, and Michigan. This incident has highlighted the critical role refineries play in the industry and the impact they have on gasoline prices. Nevertheless, De Haan is optimistic that relief will eventually arrive, and he hopes to see gas prices continue to decrease slightly as summer vacations come to an end in the upcoming week.”
In the past week, the price of diesel has experienced a 4.0 cent decrease on a national level, with the current average standing at $3.79 per gallon.
