A man was arrested by County police on Sunday as he was seen chasing a Toyota Prius down the road and punching it.
On Sunday afternoon, around 2:00 p.m., Marshall Guthrie, a 42-year-old resident of La Porte, was seen chasing a Toyota Prius down CR 300 North while swinging at it, as per a police report.
As officers were responding to a report of a reckless driver in Center Township near the intersection of 300 North and 400 West, they stumbled upon a 2022 Dodge pickup truck in the ditch, still running and in gear. The driver seemed to have lost control of the vehicle, resulting in the unfortunate accident.
As they continued on their way, they stumbled upon Guthrie, who was barefoot and in the process of attacking a Toyota. According to the driver of the Prius, he had given Guthrie a ride after seeing him walking along the road. However, Guthrie suddenly grabbed a package of fishing hooks, a tape measure, and a pair of glasses from the center console and jumped out of the car. Due to his erratic behavior, an officer had to tackle and subdue him.
Officers discovered what they suspected to be numerous hallucinogenic mushrooms in Guthrie’s backpack. He was taken to a hospital for evaluation and now faces various possible charges. Currently, he is accused of fleeing the scene of an accident, illegally entering a motor vehicle, stealing, engaging in criminal mischief, and resisting law enforcement. The authorities are still investigating charges of driving under the influence and possessing a controlled substance.
