Protests erupted in Israel on Sunday following the retrieval of the bodies of six additional hostages. The Israeli military has confirmed that Hamas in Gaza was responsible for their deaths.
“I’m not surprised, I’m more numb,” expressed Mort Meisner, a Michigan resident and cousin to Goldberg-Polin.
According to him, his cousin was taken captive during the music festival attack on October 7, which sparked the war. Unfortunately, the 23-year-old suffered the loss of a limb in the incident.
According to Meisner, the young man displayed incredible selflessness by hiding with others and attempting to protect them. In a brave act, he even picked up a live grenade and tried to throw it out, resulting in the loss of his hand.
Hersh Goldberg-Polin‘s parents have been tirelessly advocating for his release. During their heartfelt speech at the Democratic National Convention last month, they remained hopeful for his safe return.
“Hersh, we want you to know that we love you and are here for you. Stay strong,” expressed Rachel Goldberg-Polin, Hersh’s mother.
The loss has devastated the entire family right now.
According to Meisner, his mother, grandmother, and great-grandparents are incredible individuals who possess an extraordinary sense of generosity. Their determination to secure the release of other hostages is unwavering.
Tens of thousands of Israelis flooded the streets on Sunday, passionately demanding Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to swiftly negotiate a cease-fire with Hamas and secure the safe return of the remaining captives. The public display of solidarity and urgency underscores the nation’s unwavering commitment to the well-being of its citizens.
President Joe Biden issued a statement, emphasizing that the leaders of Hamas will face consequences for their actions. He made it clear that there would be no tolerance for these crimes.
Vice President Kamala Harris also expressed her thoughts on the matter, condemning Hamas as an evil terrorist organization. She emphasized that with these murders, Hamas bears the responsibility for shedding more American blood.
Israel’s biggest trade union is intensifying its pressure on the government by demanding a general strike on Monday. This move, if implemented, would mark the first general strike since the October 7 attack.
