According to authorities, a migrant who had been deported previously and is suspected of committing crimes across the United States since returning illegally has been apprehended in Indiana. The arrest occurred after a teenage girl was stabbed at her brother’s baseball game.
Dimas Gabriel Yanez, a 26-year-old man, was apprehended on Sunday following a thorough search. This came after a distressing incident where a 14-year-old girl was stabbed in the hand with a butcher-style knife during a game in Lowell, Indiana. Lake County Sheriff Oscar Martinez Jr. shared this information on Facebook.
Yanez became a suspect immediately, as the sheriff’s department issued several warnings over the weekend, urging the public to consider him as armed and dangerous.
On Sunday, after an intense manhunt and a subsequent foot pursuit, law enforcement authorities finally located him running through a cornfield in the southern part of the county and took him into custody.
The sheriff stated that it is believed he was in the process of cutting his hair to change his appearance just before he was arrested. Photos reveal Yanez with thick locks in earlier wanted images, but they were largely hacked off as he was led away in handcuffs.
According to the sheriff, it has been discovered that Yanez, who was deported to Honduras in 2018, may have been involved in criminal activities across the United States after illegally re-entering the country.
The US Department of Homeland Security has been informed about his arrest, stated the department.
The update provided no further details on the previous offenses that the authorities are investigating the suspect for or the specific locations involved.
Yanez remains in custody at the Lake County jail. According to the sheriff, the investigation is still ongoing and further details will be provided as they become available.
